Dublin’s great hotels gather around its Georgian heart. The Shelbourne has looked over St Stephen’s Green for more than two centuries, in its own words; The Merrion is an impeccable restoration of four Georgian townhouses, home to Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud; The Westbury sits a step off Grafton Street, and The Fitzwilliam on the Green holds Glovers Alley. The newer city lies east: Anantara The Marker on Grand Canal Square, and The Dylan and the InterContinental in leafy Dublin 4.
Around St Stephen’s Green
The Shelbourne, at 27 St Stephen’s Green, has the Horseshoe Bar, opened in 1957, the Saddle Room and afternoon tea in the Lord Mayor’s Lounge. The Fitzwilliam, on the west side of the Green, has 139 newly refurbished rooms and Glovers Alley, with One MICHELIN Star in the 2026 guide. The Merrion, on Upper Merrion Street, has 142 rooms and suites, an 18-metre pool and Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, with Two Stars.

Grafton Street and College Green
The Westbury, at 2 Balfe Street, is a step from Grafton Street; The College Green Hotel fills three historic banking buildings facing Trinity College, with its Atrium Lounge under a glass canopy.
Book early for December and for big match weekends, when the city’s hotels fill.
Dublin 4 and the Docklands
Anantara The Marker rises over Grand Canal Square; The Dylan is a five-star boutique hotel in a historic building on Eastmoreland Place; the InterContinental stands in two acres of gardens in Ballsbridge.
Townhouses
The Wilder Townhouse, behind a Victorian red-brick façade on Adelaide Road, has 42 rooms; Number 31, on Leeson Close, is a hideaway of 22 rooms, as MICHELIN counts them; The Leinster, on Mount Street Lower, is home to Jean-Georges.
Beyond the city
Powerscourt Hotel at Enniskerry, Carton House at Maynooth with The Morrison Room (One Star), and The K Club at Straffan.
Our advice: stay on or near St Stephen’s Green for a first visit: everything in the Georgian city is a walk away.
