Dublin Castle was constructed in the early 13th century on the site of a Viking settlement and served for centuries as the seat of English, and later British, administration in Ireland; in 1922 it was handed over to the new Irish government, its own history records. The campus is closed to the public until January 2027 while it hosts events during Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
