Georgian Dublin is the city of squares: St Stephen’s Green, opened to the public in 1880, Merrion Square facing the National Gallery, and Fitzwilliam Square, with their brick terraces, fanlights and coloured doors. The Shelbourne, The Merrion and The Fitzwilliam stand here, with the National Museum and National Library on Kildare Street.
